The ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Internet of Things in Water is offering fully funded PhD scholarships across seven leading Australian universities. With over $10 million in funding, the Hub brings together world-class researchers and 36+ industry partners to transform how Australia monitors, manages, and protects its water systems.
Research Themes
PhD candidates can pursue research across five interconnected themes:
1. Sensors, Placement & Operation — Developing next-generation smart sensing technologies for real-time water monitoring across supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
2. Networks, Data, Security & Standards — Building secure, scalable IoT infrastructure and data governance frameworks for the water sector.
3. Advanced Analysis & Visualisation — Turning complex datasets into actionable insights through digital twins, AI, and advanced analytics.
4. Asset Control & Decision Making — Enabling real-time control and optimised decision-making for water infrastructure and assets.
5. Business Models & Engaged Communities — Creating sustainable pathways for IoT adoption and empowering communities to contribute to water management solutions.

PhD positions are available at: Queensland University of Technology (Lead Institution), University of Melbourne, UNSW Sydney, Monash University, Macquarie University, Adelaide University, and the University of Western Australia.
